Families

“families are chosen based on genuine need and from personal recommendation.”

The purpose and vision of Live to Give clearly explains that the reason for the foundation is to help families in need, in a personal way. It is important that everyone feels secure with the destination of their donations, so be assured that families are chosen based on genuine need and from personal recommendation. Live to Give places importance on choosing a family that will accept our donation while simultaneously empowering them to use it effectively.

“affects about 1 in every 8 million”

Live to Give Foundation has chosen to help Bruce Scharfenberg, father to Hanna (11), Grant (13), and Chris (23) and husband to Jill, who is suffering from a rare blood disease called primary amyloidosis that affects about 1 in every 8 million people. Since July of 2007 he has undergone stem-cell transplant and two types of chemotherapy trying to put it in remission. Amyloidosis has left Bruce with not only a rare disease but a weak heart muscle. With remission, he can be placed on the heart-transplant list.

Bruce is a phenomenal person, as he has spent the last 20 years instructing and guiding blind and mobility-impaired cross-country skiers for an organization named “Ski for Light”. Bruce has spent decades helping those in need and now he is burdened by challenges of his own. His family faces obstacles of the worst kind, but they don’t have to face them alone. We have the opportunity to help!
